Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best overnight stops, highlights and included experiences, with plenty of optional activities to choose from. No two Trek trips are the same, with stops at some of your tour leader's favourite places and occasional changes to the itinerary, so get ready for one awesome adventure!

Tonight it's time to meet your tour leader, driver and fellow Trekkers, but why not arrive early to see the sights, or add some extra hotel nights before the start of your tour to really explore the city. Quito is the second-highest capital city in the world at 2,850 metres above sea level, so you'll want to make sure you drink plenty of water and stay off the alcohol whilst you adjust (just for a few days!). The city is hemmed in by dramatic green mountain peaks and sits at the base of the live volcano Pichincha; you can take the sky tram for awesome views over the whole city. The `Old Town' is a gem - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's recognised as the best-preserved historic centre in Latin America, full of magnificent plazas and art-filled churches. If you have time then check out the steep `calles', busy plazas and buzzing local markets of the old city neighbourhoods by day; and by night you'll find the La Mariscal district is teeming with restaurants and bars.

It's back on the road and there may be an opportunity to see the Inca ruins at Ingapirca, en route to the laid-back old colonial city of Cuenca, Ecuador's third largest city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the cobblestone streets and check out the cathedral and museums. Fun fact is that Cuenca is where the Panama hat originated from, so you may want to visit a factory and try on one of these beauties!

Today's a long drive day with a border crossing from Ecuador into Peru, making this the perfect day to practice your Spanish and get to know your fellow travelling buddies. After crossing over into Peru, you'll notice how the scenery changes between countries as you travel through small villages where fishermen work with their hand nets. With three nights in the beachside town of Mancora, there's plenty of time for a bit of R&R as you feel the sand between your toes and swim in the bathtub-warm waters. There are loads of great seafood restaurants, buzzing nightspots and several miles of sandy coastline to stroll along, plus it's the perfect place to saddle up for a bit of horse riding, try a surf lesson or swim with turtles. Humpback Whales travel to the northern coast of Peru from Antarctic waters for breeding and calving, so join a whale watching tour (seasonal, August to October) for a chance to witness these beautiful creatures. Past tours have an 85% success rating for sighting Humpback Whales and you'll also spot other fascinating marine life such as dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles and maybe even a Blue Footed Booby!

Today is a big drive day heading south along the Pacific Coast, passing oil derricks in the Sechura Desert and heading through the oasis town of Piura, on your way to the coastal town of Huanchaco. south and inland, towards the Cordillera Blanca mountains and the small town of Huaraz. The town's at an altitude of 3,052 metres and located close to Peru's highest peak, Huascarán, but by now you should have gained your `altitude legs'! Huaraz is a paradise for trekking, climbing and beautiful scenery and with three nights here, there's plenty of time to really get to know the place. Enjoy a guided trek to Laguna 69, a stunning high alpine lake nestled at the base of Pisco peak. Seriously, you'll be hard pushed to stop your jaw from dropping when you first gaze upon this breathtaking glacial lake! Who's up for a polar plunge?! For even more adventure, opt for some ice climbing on the Pastoruri Glacier. It's very tough and at very high altitude, but you'll be well rewarded with some amazing views.

It's the final leg of your Latin American journey, as the hustle and bustle of city life comes into view in the Peruvian capital of Lima. The historic centre of Lima is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has loads to fill your time including beautiful colonial buildings, top-notch museums and the spooky catacombs which are most definitely worth paying a visit. You'll want to grab a seat in one of the main squares, the Plaza de Armas and Plaza San Martin, for a spot of people watching (both are within easy walking distance of your hotel). Why not head out to coastal Miraflores where all the cool kids hang out, for one last meal with your new amigos and the chance to dance the night away?

All good things must come to an end and you are free to depart at any time on day 14.
