6 of the Best Cities to Start Your Road Trip In

  • Las Vegas

Love a city adventure? Yeah, us too. As well as some of the best National Parks in the world, North America is home to some of the most amazing cities you'll set foot in. Think big sights, oodles of culture, nightlife for days and some serious photo ops.

We've rounded up six of our favourite city destinations, and the best tours to take after exploring them!

New York

New York City

If you’re new to the USA, New York is the perfect city to start your adventure in. You’ve seen it in the movies, now walk through Times Square, across Brooklyn Bridge and explore the streets of Manhattan for yourself! We recommend a couple of days here to soak up the amazing Big Apple atmosphere, but if you’re short on time, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building are three of the top spots to hit up. Got a bit more time? The High Line, Rockefeller Centre and a Broadway show should definitely be on your list too.

Immortalised in song by the one and only Will Smith, this is really a city where the heat is on. Expect temperatures in the 20s all year round, and a whole lot of beach life. South Beach is the iconic spot to watch tanned and toned locals strut their stuff, but beyond the shores, there’s plenty more fun to be found. Check out the colourful Art Deco buildings, and head to Little Havana for a taste of Cuban life in this lively neighbourhood.

Seattle Skyline

Not just the birthplace of grunge and Starbucks, Seattle is one cool city. The Space Needle is a defining landmark, and those with a head for heights can take in the view from the top. If you’re feeling peckish, Pike Place Market is THE spot to grab a bite. Seattle has a great seafood scene, and here’s where you’ll find the best of it, as well as plenty of great shopping opportunities. And if your tastes are a bit quirkier, check out the iconic Gum Wall and the Museum of Pop Culture.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles Hollywood Boulevard at sunset

The sprawling city of Los Angeles is a playground for the rich and famous – and now, you! Hollywood Boulevard is, of course, the top spot to check out. Pavements lined with stars, THAT infamous sign and behind-the-scenes tours at some of the best known studios await. If you’re spending a little more time in the city, make your way to Venice Beach to hang with the locals and catch some chilled out Cali vibes. For the more adventurous, a hike through Griffith Park offers incredible city views and the fascinating Griffith Observatory.

Vancouver city view

For a Canadian road trip through the beautiful West Coast, Vancouver is a perfect starting point. Parkland and nature reign supreme here – take a bike ride through Stanley Park and breathe in the fresh air along the scenic seawall. Lighthouse Park embodies the rugged Pacific Coast, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge is a thrilling walk through the treetops of North Vancouver.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas

If your road trip starts or ends in Las Vegas, it’d be criminal not to spend a couple of extra days here – because you won’t experience anything quite like Sin City. This is one 24/7 city, with live shows, flashing neon lights and music all flowing through its veins. Everything here is larger than life, including the world’s tallest observation wheel. At night, ‘The Strip’ comes alive with street performances, light shows and the famous Bellagio ‘dancing fountains.
