As this tour departs at 07:30 hrs we recommend that you book pre tour accommodation. Please request further details at time of booking.
Kick-start your West Coast adventure with a visit to LA's Walk of Fame and enjoy a tour of Hollywood, home to the most famous real estate sign in the world, before crossing the Mojave Desert. Make a beeline for the hottest, driest and lowest place in America - Death Valley National Park. Without the blistering heat of the extreme summer temperatures, this is a real winter treat. Your camera will lap up sights like Zabriskie Point, Artist's Palette (a giant egg-box of turquoise, orange and red mineral deposits), and the immense perspectives of Dante's View, which is a perfect view indeed!
Get ready for the city of excess: Las Vegas. Night life, high life, Las Vegas has it all. Feel like a star on an included stretch limo tour of the Las Vegas Strip, and party your way through the streets under the glare of the city's neon lights. Shows and top nightclubs make this a true 'city that never sleeps'. Check out the displays from the glitzy resort hotels which all try to outdo each other, jump on a roller coaster, or treat yourself to an all-you-can-eat buffet. For an interesting view of Vegas, why not fly high above the glitzy buildings on an evening flight along The Strip, or simply enjoy a spot of people watching; Vegas is certainly full of interesting characters!
Departing the desert neon city of Vegas, travel a section of the original Route 66 and stop in the town of Seligman to experience Americana at its very best! This town feels like a living museum where time has stood still and a visit to the Snow Cap Diner is always a fab treat. Try the super-thick milkshakes! Now admire an incredible masterpiece crafted by nature: the Grand Canyon. Tread the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Gardens, or venture to Plateau Point. Better yet, take a helicopter flight (highly recommended) for a bird's-eye view and marvel at the brilliant colours. The canyon depths are nothing short of mind-blowing and the first time you cast your eyes into the belly of the canyon, the image will stay with you forever! Make sure you get up early to see the sunrise as it changes the colours of the rocks, and you'll have the canyon almost to yourself!
On the road again, drop by the ancient high-rise dwellings known as Montezuma Castle National Monument. Step back in time, and discover the culture and hidden secrets of one of America's most ancient communities, the Anasazi. Next, head for our Wild West Cowboy Camp at Betty & Rusty's! This is a unique experience you're going to love. Opt to mount a trusty steed and trot between the iconic Saguaro Cacti; looming as high as 6 metres (20 ft) and with their familiar curved arms, they're a sure sign you're definitely in the Wild West here! Fresh from the saddle, tuck into an authentic chuckwagon dinner (that's a mobile cookhouse to you and me) before a night under a million desert stars.
A road trip just isn't a road trip without miles and miles of cactus-studded desert and sun-drenched Arizona doesn't disappoint. The Sonora Desert is one of the largest and hottest deserts in North America (stretching from the USA into Mexico), and can fluctuate between dry and arid to lush and green. It's certainly a sight to behold so get your camera ready for the perfect picture of the rolling sand dunes.
Prepare yourself for the unexpected burst of colour at Salvation Mountain; you might recognise this crazy man-made mountain from the film 'Into the Wild'! Next up is San Diego. With mild temperatures all year round, this Californian coastal city is where it's at. Rollerblade or hang out with the surfers on Mission Beach, feast on a tasty mahi-mahi taco, cycle Balboa Park or meet the residents of the world-famous San Diego Zoo. At night, why not head to the Gaslamp Quarter for an evening of fun and live music.
From laid-back San Diego, to full-on in-your-face Los Angeles! You'll visit eclectic Venice Beach for some ultimate people watching; see the muscle-clad locals strut their stuff on the sand under the Californian sunshine. Venice Beach is like a carnival running all year round...with free admission! Add on a few more days after your tour to really explore more of the city's attractions, from Universal Studios to Santa Monica Pier, or add on a city tour to discover the famous LA neighbourhoods with a local guide.
This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
