Wisconsin is known for cheese and microbreweries, so you can rest assured you and your fellow Trekkers won't go hungry or thirsty here! Some of the greatest things about an American road trip are the quirky roadside attractions you come across along the way, so be sure to say a big ole' howdy to the Jolly Green Giant Statue in Blue Earth. Head out across the great prairies and America's original western frontier. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle down for some shut-eye under canvas.

Make a quick stop at Wall Drug, a renowned drugstore on an epic scale, in the little frontier town of Wall. This place is so huge that you need a map (nope we're not joking)! Touching down in the unique lunar landscape of Badlands National Park feels more like a moon landing due to the bizarre low slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw tooth ridges - but this definitely isn't the moon and there are signs of life from bison, Bighorn Sheep and prairie dogs to confirm it. For awesome views, watch the sun setting over this surreal landscape.

It's not every day you get to come face-to-face with four of America's most famous presidents, sculpted into the landscape. In the Black Hills of South Dakota, the Mount Rushmore National Memorial honours presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln; and it's pretty darn impressive with 18 metre high faces, more than 150 metres up. Close by, another rock-carved epic captures another piece of American history. The Crazy Horse Memorial, in memory of the famed Lakota Indian war leader, is an impressive sight not to be missed.

Wild Wyoming is up next as you head to Cody in the heart of cowboy country. Embrace the town's cowboy roots, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head! The Old West is literally alive and kicking here and nothing says Wyoming more than a good dose of rodeo, so that's exactly what you'll get if you're in town during the rodeo season, as we've included an evening visit (June to August only). Yeehaw!

Take in the stunning scenery as you drive down the Californian Coast to Redwood National Park. Get out and stretch those legs with a hike on the Tall Trees Grove trail and keep an eye out for elk and bear who can be found hiding under the canopy of the Redwoods. These trees are tall! In fact Redwoods are the tallest trees on earth, so be prepared to spend a lot of time looking up. As you explore more of the park you might start to recognise the canyons covered in fern and moss from Steven Spielberg's 'Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World'.
