A city full of beautiful people all jostling to be the `next big thing', Los Angeles has changed a lot since the days of Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra, but that same spirit is still there by the bucket-load. Before you meet your fellow Trekkers and tour leader for a welcome meeting tonight at 18:00 hrs, make sure you take some time to explore `Tinseltown' at your own pace. Alternatively, why not head to the beach and get some chill time? Santa Monica and Venice Beach are great places to spend time people watching, riding bikes and rollerblading for that ultimate LA experience.
You can't come all the way to LA without a stroll through Hollywood before you leave. The flashy lights will leave you in awe of this magical place. Search for your favourite celebrities on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and for the cherry on top of the TrekAmerica cake, take a selfie with the iconic Hollywood sign! Did you know that the sign read `Hollywoodland' until 1949 when the `land' was ditched? No, well now you do! Once you've had your fair share of the glitz and the glam, it's time for you and your Trek crew to head to `America's Finest City', San Diego, where the weather is perfect and the vibes are laid-back. First things first, make your way to Balboa Park, where you'll find San Diego Zoo with over 3,000 animals, 15 museums and beautiful gardens where you can kick back and relax. San Diego is probably best known for its epic beach scene, so grab your sunnies and head to the beach where you'll find a front row seat to the awesome California Coast.
Leave the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean behind you; it's time to turn up the heat with a drive into the desert. On the road today you'll make a pit stop at Salvation Mountain, which you may recognise from the cult film `Into the Wild'. Follow the yellow brick road all the way to the top of this strange desert sculpture for some awesome desert vistas. Before your final stop in Prescott this evening, you'll pass spectacular sand dunes in the Mojave Desert and have a picture-perfect photo stop amongst the rolling dunes. Tonight head to Whiskey Row to check out some old school saloons, where dusty cowboys used to hang out for, you guessed it, a whiskey or two.
It's the day you've been waiting for; the day you get to witness Mother Nature in all her ass-kicking glory at the mighty Grand Canyon. You've read about it, you've seen a million pictures of it, but nothing will prepare you for that epic feeling of standing on the edge of one of the world's most incredible natural wonders. You have time to explore the trails and see the canyon from different perspectives. If you're looking to push yourself, venture down to Plateau Point on the Bright Angel Trail; or if you just want more awesome views but without the hassle of a long hike, head along the West Rim Trail. To really see the Grand Canyon in all its glory, take an optional helicopter flight over and into the canyon. Totally mind-blowing! If weather allows, tonight you'll enjoy a pizza dinner overlooking the Grand Canyon, or during cooler months you'll enjoy dinner nearby.
Enjoy a stop at the town of Seligman on the original Route 66, a place filled to the brim with pure Americana! Next up is the craziest city in America - you won't believe it until you see it! Elvis lookalikes trawling The Strip, roller coasters flashing past before your eyes, and beautiful people in bikinis and board shorts drinking cocktails at daytime pool parties. You're in Vegas, baby, and there really is nowhere else quite like it. There ain't no party like a TrekAmerica party, so that's why we've included a private party bus for you and your new mates, so get those red cups at the ready. Experience the buzz of `Sin City' with a stroll down The Strip - you won't make it all the way along though, as it's a whopping four miles long! Make sure you work up on appetite so you can make the most of an included all-you-can-eat buffet. You won't leave Vegas hungry, that's for sure!
Today you'll go from one extreme to the other, as you leave the 24-hour party town and get down and dirty in one of America's most epic national parks, Yosemite. It's awesome vistas galore as you drive past towering cliffs, out of this world waterfalls, and pretty meadows filled with wild flowers. You'll stay in Mariposa just outside the national park and enjoy an included dinner in downtown Mariposa; a chance to stuff your face, all in the name of preparation for a day of hiking tomorrow. As you hit the trails on your second day in Yosemite National Park, make sure you keep an eye out for wildlife also roaming the trails such as deer, elk and - if you're lucky - bears. With over 800 miles of trails within the park, a great place to start your adventure is on The Mist Trail hike, where you'll pass two of Yosemite's most beautiful waterfalls, Vernal and Nevada Falls. No matter which trail you head along, you'll have a blast. If that isn't enough, you can even float down the Merced River on a rubber ring for a totally different perspective of this truly incredible place.
Welcome to the `City by the Bay'! You'll soon find out why San Francisco is much, much more than just the Golden Gate Bridge - although that's a great place to start. There's no better way to discover a city than with a tour of the neighbourhoods with a local guide, and on your included Urban Adventures tour you'll be transported halfway around the world with a visit to the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. You'll soon discover where all the sea lions hang out when they're in town, as you explore all the great highlights that San Francisco has to offer.
If you are interested in visiting Alcatraz we recommend you book your tickets well in advance direct with Alcatraz Cruises. For this tour you should book your ticket for day 11 from 1pm onwards. See Tour Extras tab for more information.
With palm trees everywhere and miles of gorgeous beach to flop on, Santa Barbara is pure paradise! After you've spent a few hours here you'll be wishing you never have to leave. Don't let the easy laid-back vibes fool you, there are tons of action-packed activities to get involved in, from biking and hiking to sea kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. Head into the city and be greeted by loads of restaurants serving up some seriously tasty grub, oh and the wine around these parts is some of the best you'll have ever tasted; this is California wine country after all! Sadly, your trip is soon coming to an end, but we've included the best kind of finale for you and your new mates to enjoy: a sunset sail cruise around the coast. With the potential to see dolphins and whales, enjoy the bar on board and toast the perfect end to what has been an amazing adventure.
You're back in LA and unfortunately that's a wrap... or is it? Stay a few extra days after your trip if you want to delve a little deeper into this cooler than cool city. See how the rich and famous live with some window shopping down Rodeo Drive or if you want to escape the urban jungle, take a hike to the Griffith Observatory where you can enjoy amazing views of the LA skyline. Meals: Breakfast included This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
Our tours usually depart at 07:30am and finish around 5:00pm at designated hotels in our gateway cities, so it's a great idea to book a room for the night before and after your tour.
