Travelling along California’s famous Pacific Coast Highway, the coastline grows more and more spectacular, as forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. Follow the coastal path to one of the most iconic viewpoints of Big Sur. McWay Falls is a stunning 24-metre-high (80 ft.) waterfall that cascades directly onto its own private beach. With such amazing scenery and tons of wildlife, including sea lions and whales, it's no surprise that people say this is one of the best stretches of road on the West Coast. We couldn't agree more!

The highlights keep coming thick and fast with an included trip to the city's most famous attraction, Alcatraz Prison (worth US$33). Learn all about the prisoners who spent their lives trying to escape with a superb audio tour. As you drive along the stunning Californian Coast to Redwood National Park, you'll be well and truly spoilt with amazing scenery around every bend. Get out and stretch those legs with a hike on the Tall Trees Grove trail and keep an eye out for elk and bear who can be spotted hiding under the canopy of the Redwoods. As the name suggests the trees along this trail are tall! They are in fact the tallest trees on earth, so be prepared to spend a lot of time looking up. As you explore more of the park you might start to recognise the canyons covered in fern and moss from Steven Spielberg's 'Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World'. Don't worry though, the dinosaurs are long gone!

Call it what you want - 'City of Roses', 'Bridge City' or 'Beervana'- Portland is simply awesome! A vibrant city full of quirky cafes, cool hipster folk and the best doughnut shop a person could ask for, Voodoo Donuts - whether it's for breakfast or just for a cheeky snack, just do it! For the healthier option check out some of the numerous farmers markets that seem to pop up everywhere. Oh, and let's not forget about the beer! With over 30 breweries dotted across the city you'll never go thirsty in Portland.

A great trip to experience all that the west coast has to offer.

Reviewed February 2014
This was a great trip (as all of them are, I'm sure). It was a lovely mix of all the cities/towns of the west coast; Yosemite, San Francisco, Seattle, Mt. St. Helen's, and many small coastal towns that I had never heard of. Admittedly I had never heard of most of the places we visited - but ...
