Found at the head of Kachemak Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, Homer is known by many as 'the cosmic hamlet by the sea', and this quirky ocean town is surrounded by beautiful wilderness. It's the perfect place for you to kick off your Alaskan adventure, so make sure you give sea fishing a try or opt for kayaking in the icy waters. If bear spotting is high on your list of things to do, this area is renowned for bear viewing opportunities, so the chance to join a full day bear viewing tour is not to be missed!
The coastal town of Seward is known for its spectactular mountain and bay scenery, as well as its superb location close to Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward offers both land-based and marine wildlife as well as a wonderful selection of tours, cruises and activities. Kenai is known as the land where mountains, ice and ocean meet, so why not head out on a cruise to Kenai Fjords to discover icy peaks and the opportunity to spot Orcas, porpoises and sea otters, and hear glaciers calve huge chunks of ice into the sea with an ear-splitting crack!
Make the journey north to stunning Denali National Park, stopping along the way in Talkeetna, where you can tuck into the local delicacy of reindeer sausage. In Denali, it's time to feel like a true wilderness explorer, as the rangers encourage you to break away from the beaten track and find your own route through this magical national park. Make the most of your scenic bus pass to really get out and explore. Being this far north in the 'land of the midnight sun', you'll be glad of all the overtime hours that daylight is putting in, so make the most of it. The park has abundant wildlife so keep a watch out for the 'Big Five': Caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, moose and Grizzly Bear. You can also watch a dog sled demonstration here. Hike in the shadows of Mount Denali; standing at over 6,190m (20,320 ft.), North America's highest mountain dominates every view. For something really special, take a scenic flight over this incredible mountain and enjoy views that will blow you away.
Travel along the Denali Highway with incredible scenery en route to the Tangle Lakes. With such a great name it's no wonder this is an awesome place to chill out! Here lake-splattered green plains stretch to distant mountains and some wilderness canoeing should raise your pulse rate. This remote area really is the perfect place to relax for a night.
The scenery just keeps on getting better and better, you're definitely going to start feeling well and truly spoilt as you and your fellow Trekkers take the scenic route along the Alaska Mountain Range all the way to Wrangell-St Elias National Park. This is a truly vast national park - the largest in the United States and six times bigger than Yellowstone! Nine of the country's highest 16 peaks are in the park, plus some of the largest glaciers in North America. You'll find superb untended hiking trails, unpaved roads and never-ending views. It's safe to say the next couple of days are going to be epic! As the Wrangell Mountains cast their lengthy shadow, ready yourself for some top-notch glacier action. How about a guided hike on the Kennecott Glacier? For a more vertical challenge, grab an axe for a spot of ice climbing on Root Glacier.
Then before you know it, it's time to leave the Alaskan wilderness behind you and head back to civilisation. But don't be too sad, Anchorage is a city that has heaps of local walking trails, shops aplenty and a great bar and restaurant scene, so we suggest staying a few extra days after the tour to explore.
This tour ends at our gateway hotel at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
Our tours usually depart at 07:30am and finish around 5:00pm at designated hotels in our gateway cities, so it's a great idea to book a room for the night before and after your tour. It's also worth staying extra nights to explore the city more. You must book these hotels in advance either online with your tour or by contacting our friendly sales team.
