TREK LIST - ESSENTIAL ITEMS
1. Sleeping Bag
A must on all camping & budget lodging tours! All types of sleeping bag are available, from light weight synthetic bags for summers in the desert southwest, to heavy weight down bags to keep you toasty warm in Alaska.
2. Footwear
We recommend a comfortable pair of "trail walkers/cross trainers" for hiking and activities, plus a good pair of sandals for use around camp. Trek Tip: You'll find our trek leaders live in their Merrill or Teva sandals
3. Headlamp/Torch
Nothing worse than searching around in the dark of night for that loo-role! A good torch is another essential on any camping tour. The new style Petzl headlamp torches are your best bet to keep your hands free.
4. Inflatable Sleeping Mat
You will be supplied with your own personal foam sleeping mat on every TrekAmerica camping tour, but for added comfort we recommend bringing a Therma-Rest self-inflating sleeping mat. Not cheap, but a must if comfort is a concern.
5. Rucksack/Backpack
Although not essential, we do recommend a small backpack to carry everything you need throughout the day (camera, i-pod, water bottle, sunglasses). For trekkers on longer journeys we recommend investing in a full-sized rucksack as well.
6. Drinking Bottle
Another "must have" item on tour! While exploring the national parks and desert wilderness you'll wonder how you could ever have lived without one. 'Greener' than store-bought bottled water, cheap to buy and essential to carry!
7. Active Outdoor Clothing
Pack light, pack right! As is the case on any journey through varied climates or terrains, we recommend layers of light-weight, quick-dry clothing. Check out this comprehensive range of clothing from North Face, Lowe Alpine, Craghoppers and more.
8. Sunglasses
Protect those eyes, because they're the only pair you got! Never underestimate the power of the sun, especially when hiking in the desert, scrambling up a glacier or lying on the beach. Oakley's are best for that classic cool.
9. Other Essential Items
Obviously, the above list is just a start. Check out our complete packing list and other essential items; including portable alarm clocks, insect repellent, power adapters, toiletries kits and more.

International Calling Cards
As internet access is limited in the national parks and wilderness areas it's important to call home once in a while on tour. The cheapest way to call home is to open an online prepaid phone account that can used with any pay phone or for more convenience why not buy an international mobile handset which can be used on the road in North America so friends & family can contact you.
