Day 1-2: Los Angeles & San Diego
It's time to say hello to the sunny beaches of San Diego. Laze in grassy Balboa Park and visit the monkeys in the famous San Diego Zoo. Feel the sand between your toes at Mission Beach, whilst working on that all important Californian tan. San Diego has the perfect mix of city life and laid back beach vibes. You'll never be bored here with so many beachfront activities; go rollerblading, cycling or take to the water for a spot of surfing or paddle boarding. Later, explore the Gaslamp Quarter and experience the very heart of San Diego, with awesome restaurants, art galleries and a night life scene that will make sure your first night is one to remember!
Accommodation: Hostel nights included
Day 3: Prescott
The strange desert sculpture of Salvation Mountain, seen in the movie 'Into the Wild', is not something you'd ever expect to see in the middle of the desert, but it's these unexpected wonders that make a USA road trip so awesome! Follow the yellow brick road all the way to the top of the 100 foot hill for some great photos of this amazing desert setting. You'll then continue towards Arizona's famous Colorado River and onto Prescott, Arizona where you overnight.
Accommodation: Motel night included
Day 4-5: Grand Canyon National Park
Strike out across the desert in search of one of the `Seven Natural Wonders of the World', the Grand Canyon. Over 227 miles long, 18 miles wide and 1 mile deep, it's perfect for exploring on foot or on an exhilarating helicopter flight. Whether you're in the air or on foot, there's nothing that will disappoint here. Stunning views, thrilling hikes and the opportunity to learn all about how this epic feat of Mother Nature was formed. If it's serious hiking you're after, then a hike deep into the canyon on the Bright Angel Trail will make sure you're pushed to your limits, but rewarded for your efforts (optional). Let's not forget about the aptly named `Ooh Aah Point' on the South Kaibab Trail, which again won't disappoint when it comes to breath-taking views.
Accommodation: Hotel nights included
Day 6-7: Route 66 & Las Vegas
Today you'll travel a section of the original Route 66 stopping at the town of Seligman, a quaint town which has stood still in time and is filled to the brim with authentic road trip memorabilia. As you cross the border from Arizona into Nevada you'll make a quick pit stop for a selfie with the epic Hoover Dam. With a sudden burst of neon, Vegas is right in your face - Viva Las Vegas! This is the party capital of the USA and you'll soon see why as you start your night off with an included Las Vegas limousine tour where you can let your hair down and see the sights at the same time. Why not enjoy a feast at the Luxor's deluxe buffet; experience the Bellagio's water-show and New York New York's roller coaster before checking out Coyote Ugly and partying all night long. Just remember, `what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.'
Accommodation: Hotel nights included
Day 8-9: Yosemite National Park Area
Heading west it's time to leave those sore heads and empty pockets behind and get back to nature with a stop at the awe-inspiring and stunning Yosemite National Park. There's a reason that Yosemite is California's most loved national park, with its ancient Giant Sequoia trees that tower high above you. You'll also have the opportunity to experience some of the USA's most iconic wildlife, including black bears and coyotes. Both easy and challenging hikes await you and whichever you opt for you'll be brought face to face with stunning glacier-carved granite monoliths, deep valleys and spectacular waterfalls. For a different way to see the park, why not enjoy a float down the Merced River on a rubber ring?
Accommodation: Hostel nights included
Day 10-11: San Francisco
One of the most vibrant cities in the USA, San Francisco has got it all! Upon arrival enjoy a tour of Haight-Ashbury and then cycle or walk across the famous Golden Gate Bridge. There are loads of options to fill your time in San Francisco such as grabbing a bite to eat in Chinatown, an optional trip to Alcatraz (book your ticket online and in advance to avoid missing out), sampling delicious seafood at Fisherman's Wharf and of course visiting the famous resident sea-lions at Pier 39. View the bay and Alcatraz on an optional sunset sailboat cruise, then the party people can flock to trendy bars and clubs in North Beach or Haight-Ashbury where that friendly vibe gets even better.
Accommodation: Hostel nights included
Day 12: Big Sur & California Coast
From big city to beach towns, California's pristine coastline makes for a beautiful drive. Brace yourself because the scenery is about to go get a whole lot more beautiful. Turn up the tunes, sit back and watch stunning scenery fly by your window as you follow the winding roads of California's pristine coastline. The wilderness of Big Sur makes for a spectacular pit stop as you continue south. Check out the stunning viewpoint of McWay Falls and look out for elephant seals. You'll spend your final night under a blanket of stars in stunning California State.
Accommodation: Hotel night included
Day 13: Santa Barbara
Explore the pier, hit the shops or simply wind down with a good dose of beach relaxation. Sometimes referred to as the California Riviera, its beautiful beaches, majestic mountains and colourful culture make Santa Barbara well worth a stop. If you didn't get in enough partying the night before, now is your chance to really get to know Santa Barbara.
Accommodation: Hotel night included
Day 14: Los Angeles
Leave beach life behind you, it's now time to return to urban life as the `City of Angels' is waiting for you to explore. The second largest city in America after New York and home to countless A-Listers, there is no shortage of things to see and do. Take a tour of Hollywood Boulevard then stroll the Walk of Fame where you'll be able to get a view of the iconic Hollywood sign. Finally you'll make our way back to the hotel where this trip of a lifetime sadly comes to an end! If you choose to stay on another couple of days, why not head to Venice Beach for a spot of people watching and to feel the Californian sand between your toes for one last time.
