  • Day 1: Los Angeles & Death Valley National Park

As you leave LA on day one your desert experience begins in Death Valley National Park, one of the lowest, driest and hottest place in the world. Explore this perfect winter destination and head down to the valley floor, taking a walk on the salt flats where you can get creative with some cool perspective shots. Other highlights include the Artist's Palette where you will see a spectacular view of turquoise, orange and red rock as far as the eye can see.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 2-3: Las Vegas

On to an incredible man-made wonder in the desert - Las Vegas. The Strip, the shows, the hotels, the clubs; `Sin City's' glitziest and brashest spots are sure to impress as you cruise the Las Vegas Boulevard on an optional limo ride! If you're fan of heights hop onto one of the world's highest thrill rides at Vegas' Stratosphere. If that's not enough excitement for you, take an optional helicopter flight down the Strip and see this neon city from the sky. It's also very possible to get married in Vegas (don't worry, it's not legally binding unless you want it to be!) so live for the moment, and marry whoever (and whatever) you like! There really is no place like Vegas baby!
    Accommodation: Hotels included

  • Day 4-5: Hoover Dam, Route 66 & Grand Canyon National Park

En route to the Grand Canyon you travel a section of the original Route 66 for a slice of old Americana in the quirky town of Seligman where you can pick up some classic road trip memorabilia. Just when the scenery seems unbeatable, it's time for the ultimate show stopper, the mighty Grand Canyon! Once you've cast your eyes upon the deep canyon landscape you'll understand why this great natural wonder is loved by locals and tourists alike. Pack your boots, camera and water before venturing into the canyon itself, along the Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point. An optional helicopter ride will take you swooping through the valleys and buzzing over the river far below for the ultimate bird's eye view. Watching the sun rise or set over the canyon with the colours changing is simply breathtaking and not to be missed. Your memories of the Grand Canyon will stay firmly imprinted on your mind forever.
    Accommodation: Hotels included

  • Day 6: Monument Valley

You've seen it on the big screen now experience your own movie moments as you hit the trail into Monument Valley and those legendary landscapes that have formed the backdrop to a whole host of Westerns. An included 4x4 tour with a Native Navajo guide will take you deep into the heart of the valley where you'll discover the sandstone formations and vast stretches of canyon lands that have long been the spiritual home of the Navajo nation. You'll then spend an unforgettable night in a traditional Navajo Hogan, hearing secret stories of American legends around a roaring campfire.
    Accommodation: Hogan included (multi share)

  • Day 7: Betty & Rusty's Wild West Cowboy Camp

Our Wild West cowboy camp is calling and your band of desperados will strike gold on a unique night in the sticks! Opt to mount your trusty steed and trot between the iconic saguaro cacti, with curved arms looming as high as 20 feet. Fresh from the saddle, tuck into an authentic dinner cooked on the open fire before a night under a million desert stars.
    Accommodation: Cowboy camping included

  • Day 8: Tombstone

You don't get much more Wild West than Tombstone, `the town too tough to die'. Unlike some towns that are recreated to look western, the buildings in Tombstone are the originals and the locals are proud to preserve the areas heritage. The merchants run their stores in their western wear and actors playing the parts of famous locals stroll around Allen Street between shows. Saloons like Big Nose Kate's and Doc Holliday's have barmaids dressed as Western saloon girls that call out at passers-by, and in the outskirts of town the Boothill cemetery is where people can visit the grave sites of those that died here. Don't miss the re-enactment of the showdown and a chance to get dressed up in authentic western clothing. This is the perfect opportunity to snap a Wild West selfie with your fellow cowboys and cowgirls!
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 9: White Sands National Monument

One of America's hidden gems is White Sands National Monument; the world's largest dune field made up of blinding white gypsum sand. These rolling white dunes have made it into several movies - if you've ever watched Transformers, you've seen White Sands. With huge mountain ranges to the east and west, White Sands is famous for wildly colourful sunrises and sunsets. Why not rent a sand board at the gift shop to experience these dunes the high-adrenaline way?
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 10-11: Big Bend National Park

Situated right on the Mexican border and named after the sharp twist in the Rio Grande, you're going to have a fantastic time in this desert wonderland. Dust off your walking boots as it's time to hit the many desert trails where you'll see plants, lizards and fields of cacti, finishing with a blazing sunset. Don't forget to check out the `Lost Mine Trail' and rest your aching feet in the local hot springs.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 12: San Antonio

You head west to historic San Antonio, home of the Alamo; a symbol of Texan pride. San Antonio has a rich and colourful past with strong cultural links to its southern neighbours. The famous San Antonio River Walk is a subterranean complex of boutique shops, bars and restaurants that meanders for two and a half miles through the wooded downtown area and is a fantastic place to while away the afternoon. Just make sure take advantage of the tax free shopping!
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 13: Sam Houston Jones

Sam Houston Jones is literally teaming with world class wildlife that lives amongst the tree-filled lagoons and pine forests. This naturally beautiful area also creates the perfect conditions for an array of birdlife unique to Louisiana. With a night in a cabin near the water and a roaring campfire it makes for a wonderful place to sleep and cook s'mores with your travel buddies.
    Accommodation: Hotel included

  • Day 14-15: New Orleans

Next is a city which requires no introduction; New Orleans. It's the place everyone loves to visit, with its exciting nightlife and that special French flavour. Every music lover should make at least one pilgrimage to New Orleans in their lifetime. Explore the enchanting French Quarter, ride a steamboat on the Mississippi River, enjoy traditional jazz at Preservation Hall or sample a `Hurricane' cocktail at Pat O'Brien's! For a really authentic Southern experience check out a `Voodoo and Graveyard' tour or brush up on your cooking skills at the New Orleans School of Cooking and make yourself a big ole' bowl of gumbo!
    Accommodation: Apartment included

  • Day 16: Memphis

As the birthplace of blues and jazz there's no shortage of great music to excite your ears. Brush up on your history as you visit the Civil Rights Museum and learn all about the struggle to overcome slavery. Find your American soul with a trip to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. No trip to Memphis is complete without a stroll down Beale Street to see the bright lights and hear the eclectic mix of blues and jazz flowing from every doorway. Finish your visit to Memphis with an optional visit to the second-most visited private home in the USA after the White House, Elvis Presley's house in Graceland.
    Accommodation: Hotel included

  • Day 17: Nashville

Don your denim and cowboy hats, it's time to show Nashville what you're made of with a night of line dancing at the Wild Horse Saloon. Get your history fix at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, home to the largest collection of country music in the world. Nashville is famous for its fine music and even finer food, so try the local specialities including hot chicken and BBQ ribs. Nashville puts on a wicked party, so head to the Grand Ole Opry and dance the night away, country style!
    Accommodation: Hostel included

  • Day 18: Appalachian Mountains

From the Shenandoah to the lush, natural beauty of the Appalachians - this super-sized, 1500 mile mountain chain is superb for stretching the legs. Also home to the American Black Bear and former haunt of the Cherokee Indians, there's time for a short walk in the Appalachians to show you why thousands flock here every year, before heading north to the capital city.
    Accommodation: Hostel included

  • Day 19-20: Washington DC

Washington DC is waiting for you, so get ready for an introduction to the political, social and cultural history of the USA. Take time to explore the very best of America's capital city by people watching in one of the many green parks. Thanks to the Smithsonian Institution's generous attitude towards art and culture, you'll be able to enter the majority of the capital's museums free of charge - great news if you're planning on saving your dimes for a shopping spree in New York! Hit the bars and clubs of Georgetown and discover not only the treasures of this city by day, but also by night.
    Accommodation: Hostels included

  • Day 21: Philadelphia & New York Area

Your epic 21 day road trip is almost coming to an end, but before it does travel to Philadelphia where you can follow in the footsteps of Sylvester Stallone and climb the famous 'Rocky' steps for your own movie moment. Head to Reading Terminal Market on an empty stomach and be prepared to be overwhelmed with delicious smells and flavours. Before you leave, you must make sure you try the famous Philly cheese steak lunch, it's divine! There's no better place to end your awesome adventure than in New York City, book yourself a couple of extra nights here to really make the most of all this unbelievable city has to offer. From a visit to the top of the Empire State Building, to a shopping spree along Fifth Avenue, the opportunities are endless. If you really don't know where to begin why not take a city tour with Urban Adventures?
