This tour also departs from New York area

  • Day 1: Los Angeles & Death Valley National Park

We head out of LA on day one and our desert experience begins at this perfect winter destination: Death Valley National Park. The blistering summer heat is no more, so your camera will lap up sights like Artist's Palette, a giant egg-box of turquoise, orange and red mineral deposits, Zabriskie Point, and the immense perspectives of Dante's View, a perfect view indeed!
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 2-3: Las Vegas

On to an incredible man-made wonder in the desert - Las Vegas - "The City That Never Sleeps". Leftfield stuff is part and parcel of Sin City: Caesars Palace's mall attendants in full centurion garb; a mock volcano erupting through the evening and newly-weds partying on The Strip. It's brash, it's bizarre and it's brilliant. Catch a show, ride a roller-coaster and enjoy the famous bright lights, casino gambling and non-stop night life. Remember the saying "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"!
Accommodation: Hotels included in tour price

  • Day 4-5: Grand Canyon National Park

We travel along a section of the original Route 66 which once saw the most traffic in America. Just when the scenery seems unbeatable, journey to the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. With two days there is more than enough time to walk the rim trails for views across the canyon and sunset watching the rocks change colour under the burning sun. But there is also time to follow the snaking trails deep into the canyon for views of the Colorado River. One of the unmissable excursions is to opt for a helicopter flight over the Canyon for a very different bird's eye view. Whatever you choose, your visit will stay firmly imprinted on your mind forever.
Accommodation: : Hotels included in tour price

  • Day 6: Monument Valley

Monument Valley, a land of classic western scenery, is the Navajo Nation's greatest natural treasure and also the most photographed place in America for good reason. Included is a jeep tour with a Navajo guide into a remote area made famous by scores of celebrated western movies. Your guide will give you information about past and present on the tribal lands and helps you scratch below the surface. You then spend an unforgettable night in a traditional Navajo Hogan, hearing secret stories and legends around the campfire.
    Accommodation: Hogan included

  • Day 7: Betty & Rusty's Wild West Cowboy Camp

Our Wild West Cowboy Camp is calling! Opt to mount your trusty steed and trot between the iconic saguaro cacti, with familiar curved arms looming as high as 20 feet. Fresh from the saddle, tuck into an authentic open fire dinner before a night under a million desert stars. This is an exclusive experience to TrekAmerica.
    Accommodation: Cowboy camping included

  • Day 8: Tombstone

You don't get much more "Wild West" than this. Scene of the OK Corral shootout, the 'Town Too Tough To Die' sports genuine gun-slinging streets. Browse the rogue's gallery buried at Boot Hill and wet parched throats at the Crystal Palace Saloon.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 9: White Sands National Monument

We make our way to White Sands National Monument where rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. With over 275 square miles of desert, this is one of the world's largest gypsum dune fields. White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dune field, along with the plants and animals that live here. Why not rent sand boards at the gift shop to experience these dunes the high-adrenaline way.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 10-11: Big Bend National Park

Leave the cities behind for five days of desert wonderland. We head first to Big Bend National Park, named for the Rio Grande's sharp twist, and a great place to strap on those hiking boots. As temperatures slack off for winter, negotiate miles of dirt and paved trails snaking through the stark wilderness. The next day we check out the 'Lost Mine Trail' showcasing the national park's highlights and rest our aching feet in the hot springs.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 12: San Antonio

We head east for historic San Antonio and home of the Alamo, a symbol of Texan pride. San Antonio has a rich and colourful past with strong cultural links to its neighbours to the south. The famous Riverwalk is a subterranean complex of boutique shops, bars and restaurants that meanders for 2.5 miles through the wooded downtown area, and is a fantastic place to while away the afternoon. San Antonio is also a big draw for international travellers who take advantage of the tax free shopping.
Accommodation: Cabin included in tour price

  • Day 13: Lafayette

Lafayette, Louisiana is a mix of modern urban life and the unmistakable influence of the region's venerable Cajun and Creole cultures. It has more restaurants per capita than any other American city, and many of them specialize in the distinctive, seafood-laden regional cuisine. Numerous music clubs feature home-grown talent, including both traditional and contemporary Cajun and Zydeco performers. Visitors can learn about the area's roots by touring the Acadian Cultural Center. Why not head out to Julian's Famous Cajun Style cuisine followed by a night at the Blue Moon Saloon; America's premier venue for roots music.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 14-15: New Orleans

Next is New Orleans, the place everyone loves to visit, with its exciting nightlife and that special French flavour. Every good music lover should make at least one pilgrimage to New Orleans in their lifetime. Explore the enchanting French Quarter, ride a steamboat on the Mississippi River, enjoy traditional jazz at Preservation Hall or sample a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! A unique experience is the Voodoo and Graveyard tour of New Orleans which shows a very different side of the city. We stay right in the heart of the French Quarter so you are right in the middle of the action!
Accommodation: Hotels included in tour price

  • Day 16: Memphis

Pay your respects to The King. Elvis's Graceland estate is crammed with gold discs, sequinned jumpsuits and his final resting place. Then stroll along Beale Street to see the influence that Blues and Jazz music has had on America. Memphis is another great place to hear some live music and kick your heels up in the evening.
Accommodation: Hotel included in tour price

  • Day 17: Nashville

We venture to the centre of American country music in Nashville, Tennessee. Also known as "Music City", and home to many country music institutions. Walk the riverfront or shop at the many stores downtown for the latest in country apparel. This evening you head out to the Wild Horse Saloon to hear some live music and the chance to try your hand at line dancing for that true country experience.
Accommodation: Hostel included in tour price

  • Day 18: Appalachian Mountains

From the Shenandoah to the lush, natural beauty of the Appalachians - this super-sized, 1500 mile mountain chain is awesome for camping and superb for stretching the legs. Also home to the American black bear and former haunt of the Cherokee Indians! There is time for a short walk in the Appalachians to show you why thousands flock here every year, before continuing to our hostel.
Accommodation: Hotel included in tour price

  • Day 19-20: Washington DC

The nation's capital, Washington, DC is next and there is no better way to start your time off here than with a self-guided tour of the illuminated monuments after the sun goes down. The following day is free to explore the famous Smithsonian Museums, the Capitol Building, Washington Monument or even the White House itself. A good idea is to rise early and visit the Lincoln Memorial before the crowds arrive or rent a bike and hit the main sites.
Accommodation: Hostels included in tour price

  • Day 21: Philadelphia & New York Area

We will stop at Philadelphia to visit the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, have the chance to climb the steps made famous in the 'Rocky' film, and maybe even an early Philly Cheese Steak Lunch, a famous local meal. We continue to the New York Area and the end of our cross country adventure. This tour is not scheduled to spend any time in New York City so make sure you book extra hotel nights and explore the sights and sounds of the Big Apple on your own. Splurge along Fifth Ave, hit the top of the Empire State Building, or soak up the trendy, laidback vibe of Greenwich Village before heading home.

This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
