  • Day 1: Los Angeles & Santa Barbara

With the Californian sun on your face you're off to Hollywood where you'll find the famous sign and Walk of Fame. It's now time to leave the glitz and glam of LA behind you and head to the coast. First up is Santa Barbara, a "gem of a coastal city" with a decidedly Spanish flair and miles of pristine sandy beaches. This is a great introduction to the incredible Californian Coast.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 2: Big Sur

With each passing mile on California's most famous road, the Pacific Coast Highway the shore grows yet more spectacular as Redwood forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. Follow the coastal path to one of the most iconic scenes of the Big Sur, McWay Falls a stunning 80 foot waterfall that cascades directly onto its own private beach. With such amazing scenery and tons of wildlife such as sea lions and whales, there is no wonder this is one of the best stretches of road on the West Coast.

  • Day 3-4: Yosemite National Park

As you say `so long' to the ocean for a couple of days, head towards the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the towering peaks of Yosemite National Park. Take in the stunning scenery as you drive up the Californian Coast to Redwood National Park. Get out and stretch those legs with a hike through Tall Trees Grove trail and keep an eye out for elk and bears who can be found hiding under the canopy of the Redwoods. As the name suggest these trees are tall! They are in fact the tallest trees on earth, so be prepared to spend a lot of time looking up. As you explore more of the park you might start to recognise the canyons covered in fern and moss from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, but don't worry, the dinosaurs are long gone! After an amazing day in Redwood National Park watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean on what is virtually your own private beach. Sounds like the perfect day, right?

Strike out across the desert in search of one of the 'Seven Natural Wonders of the World', the Grand Canyon. Take to the sky and witness the Grand Canyon's monumental red-and-gold formations from up high. Hike deep into the canyon on the Bright Angel Trail or check out the aptly named 'Ooh Aah Point' on the South Kaibab Trail. Whatever view of the Grand Canyon you have you'll never forget that moment you first lay your eyes on this incredible place.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 26-27: Route 66 & Las Vegas

Today you travel a section of the original Route 66 and make a stop at the quirky town of Seligman, filled to the brim with Americana. Next it's time to put those lucky numbers to the test, not to mention your energy levels in this 24/7 party town. A-list stars swarm here, although breaking the bank may be easier than blagging your way into their swanky celebrity hangouts. If that fails you can still cruise the Strip in a super-stretch limo or ease the pain in one of the famous all-you-can-eat buffets. But Vegas isn't all about resort hotels and clubs, why not check out a show or take an evening flight down the Strip.
