Tour Itinerary

As this tour departs at 0730 we recommend that you book pre-tour accommodation. Please request hotel details at the time of booking.

  • Day 1: New York Area & Niagara Falls

From the New York area to the edge of Lake Ontario, the sensation of crashing water is stupendous, the noise immense, at one of America's (and Canada's!) greatest national attractions, Niagara Falls. Wait 'til you're down on the water aboard 'Maid of the Mist' cruise, where the cascades pound, churn and foam right before your eyes. That's what you call a front row seat!
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 2: Ohio

Ask a "Buckeye" to tell you all about their state nut or how cool they think Cedar Point Amusement Park's rollercoasters are! Ride the GateKeeper - the tallest, fastest and longest wing roller coaster in the world!
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 3-4: Chicago

The Amish are known for simple living, plain dress, and reluctance to adopt modern technology, so step back in time with a visit to the Amish town of Shipshewana to see how these folks live. Next, pass by Gary Indiana to see the house where Michael Jackson grew up before arriving in Chicago - the "Windy City", and home to some of the greatest blues music in America. With so many activities you'll find it hard to choose what to do! Soar up Willis Tower for dizzying views over the city, trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile, grab a slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza or use peddle power on the famous "Bobby's Bike Hike" tour.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 5-6: South Dakota & Badlands National Park

Head out across the great prairies and America's original western frontier. Wisconsin is known as the home of cheese so it would be rude not to stop by to sample some! For more randomness, why not pose by the Jolly Green Giant Statue in a town called Blue Earth? Then never mind the "bad lands", touching down in Badlands National Park feels like landing on the moon. Low-slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw-tooth ridges have a bizarre lunar quality so make sure your camera is charged. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle back for some shut-eye under canvas.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 7: Mount Rushmore

Yep, we're talking Mount Rushmore and the uniquely sculptured faces of the four greatest Presidents carved into the rock face; see if you can guess their names! Close by, another rock-carved epic is shaping up: the Crazy Horse monument, a nod to the famed Lakota Indian war leader, very impressive!
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 8: Cody

Next, it's Wild Wyoming, in the heart of cowboy country. Depending on the season, you can check out a traditional Cody Rodeo; nothing says America quite like rodeo! Then shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head!
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 9-10: Yellowstone National Park

Pitch up in the world's first National Park, Yellowstone. A superb wilderness of spouting geysers, waterfalls and simmering mud pools where you can try to spot wildlife including the elusive Black Bear. Large herds of bison and elk roam the park and bubbling sulphur pools pave the way. Yellowstone is an incredible place to visit in every season, offering something different to travellers, so prepare to be blown away!
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 11-12: Jackson & Grand Teton National Park

Feel the old frontier spirit alive and kicking in the truly western town of Jackson, Wyoming. Jackson is the perfect base for exploring the Grand Teton National Park with its spiky peaks and plentiful wildlife, but also has an excellent nightlife to keep you entertained. Why not raft the Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers on an optional white-water rafting trip, and then herd your posse into the nearest watering hole. Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a fine tip, with saddles for stools and trophy cow horns above the counter.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 13-14: Idaho/Nevada & Lake Tahoe

Pass a load more widescreen scenery as you edge westward across the Northern Great Basin. California is calling, and Lake Tahoe provides the perfect setting for some watery thrills. For something a bit more chilled, set sail on an optional sunset cruise or hire a pedal boat. Whatever you do, make the most of that lovely water! Tonight why not play the house in one of the flash casinos or hit a bar with your fellow trekkers?
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 15-16: Yosemite National Park

Heading through Central California we take a scenic drive into the Yosemite National Park region with the chance to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Hike to Yosemite Falls, one of North America's highest, and capture El Capitan's great granite profile on camera. Keep your eyes peeled for Golden Eagles, marmots, coyote and Black Bears. Why not rent an inflatable tube, and go tubing down the Merced River for action packed fun times?
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 17-18: San Francisco

Next stop, San Francisco, "Everybody's Favourite City". Tour Haight Ashbury and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge for a true taste of this awesome city. There's plenty of free time for shopping in China Town & Union Square and for sightseeing. Maybe take a cruise on the bay for an unforgettable sunset, and then go bar hopping the 'Speak-easy' pubs that originated as underground drinking establishments during prohibition.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 19: Monterey

Head down the Pacific Coast Highway past cliffs, beaches and curling waves, all the way to Monterey. Why not stroll along the stunning coastal trails where you can see whales between April and October, as well as cheeky sea lions. Monterey is also well-known for its shopping and nightlife so you'll have plenty to fill your time.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 20: Big Sur State Park & San Luis Obispo

Today we drive to Big Sur State Park, stopping for the iconic waterfall photo before making our way to San Luis Obispo, right on the Californian Coast. Choose from hiking, biking, beaches, farmer's markets, wine tasting, shopping or just relaxing. In fact, there's so much happening in San Luis Obispo, you'll understand why the area has been called 'the happiest town in America'.
    Accommodation: Budget lodging included

  • Day 21: Santa Barbara & Los Angeles

Santa Barbara's famous beach beckons and the pier is where it's at so make sure you explore before rolling into LA for the grand finale; a tour of Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier. Both of these places are amongst Los Angeles' most iconic and great places to people-watch with a cocktail or simply sunbathe and breathe the fresh Californian sea breeze. Then it's onto the hotel where the tour ends... aaand that's a wrap!!

This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
