FLEXIBLE ITINERARY

Days: 1
Cancun - Merida
Starting in top gear we head straight for the legendary Chitzen Itza ruins. Stunning designs and in an excellent state of preservation. We then carry on to Merida.

Days: 2-3
Palenque
After a look around thie beautiful colonial city of Merida we head through to Palenque. These are spectacular ruins due to their stature, condition and steamy jungle setting. There are howler monkeys and all kinds of birds in the trees and half covered ruins off the beaten track.

Days: 4-6
Oaxaca
We drive through to Oaxaca which is one of the most beautiful and interesting colonial cities in Mexico. Spectacular architecture, culture, markets, food and Zapotec ruins. We visit Monte Alban which sits on top of a ridge high above the city. These will be two unforgettable days.

Zipolite, Pacific Coast
Now we're talkin. The blue waters of the Pacific Ocean with it's world class surf. Two days of beach, surf, activities and great bars and nightlife. This is just a cool place to hang out with an excellent atmosphere.

Days: 10
Tuxtla Guitierrez
We drive down the lesser known southern west coast of Mexico until we detour into the mountains to go up to Tuxtla Guitierrez, the capital city of Chiapas. It is here that we have the included boat tour of the spectacular Sumidero Canyon with its 1000 meter walls and cascading waterfalls. See crocodiles and birdlife.

San Cristobal
San Cristobal is the most beautiful and well preserved high altitude southern Mexico town. Nestled in the mountains of Chiapas the city has fantastic Indian markets and fascinating cobblestone streets to wander. There is an array of great restaurants and cafes with local and national cuisine on offer. The indigenous people speak their native tongue and the city is food for all your senses.

Frontera Corozal
This place is a treat. We drive through to the Guatemalan border to the banks of the mighty Usamacinta river which divides the two countries. We take an Indiana Jones style boat ride down the fabled Yaxchilan ruins only accessible via boat. Take a flashlight as there is some true exploring to be done here under the dense jungle canopy.

Tikal
Wow! This is the big one. We cross the river to Guatemala. Here we take a transport to the fabled ruins of Tikal. This place has to be seen to be believed- with its high pyramids reaching for the sky and lush wild jungle. Have your camera ready as this you will want to capture.

Chiapas
We return to Mexico after an amazing visit to Tikal to get ready for our trip to the Caribbean.

Chetumal/Bacalar
We cross the Yucatan peninsula for a night on the shores of the beautiful lagoon of seven colours at Bacalar. We have an included boat tour of the indescribable lagoon with its spectacular scenery and fish life. Take a refreshing swim in the Cenote Azul before driving up to our Caribbean beach hotel in Playa del Carmen.

Caribbean Beaches
Three nights on the Mexican Caribbean. Sun, swimming, diving, exploring the jungle underground cenotes (caves), dining, sipping a cerveza on the beach. Oh yes this is "la vida".

Cancun
After staying as late as we can at the beach we continue on to Cancun to finish this trip around the ancient Mayan trade routes. Adios amigos!
Tour ends at 18:00 hrs in Cancun on day 21.
