Each year, countless adventure-loving gap year holidaymakers choose to
travel around America
- and it is little wonder. As you may expect in a nation as vast as the US, a trip here can make you feel as though you have experienced a huge range of cultures and lifestyles, all while within the same country. From the glitzy lights of Vegas to the beachside cool of California and the traditional Deep South, there is much to see and experience.
One of the best ways to get the most out of a trip to the US could be a coast-to-coast road trip across America from the Big Apple to Los Angeles. This can allow you to see the sometimes stark differences between the west and east coasts of the States and is perfect for those thinking about small group holidays.
One of these tours is ideal for those who want to head back home with all the best American experiences under their belt, as it offers the chance to ride in a limo in Vegas, travel down the world famous Route 66 as well as trek through the stunning wilderness of the Grand Canyon. While you journey across America from Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon, why not also stop off at the incredible Hoover Dam? This can be found straddling the Colorado River in the Black Canyon, on the border between the states of Nevada and Arizona. This huge hydroelectric dam - which is named after former US president Henry Hoover - is about 30 miles from Las Vegas and is a definite must-see on a tour across the States. It stands at more than 700 feet and is a truly incredible sight. To get a really great view of the dam, as well as the Grand Canyon itself, you could take one of the many helicopter tours offered in this area. Maybe you like the idea of heading out on a dusk flight to check out the beauty of the canyon as the sun goes down as well as the bright lights of the famous Las Vegas strip.
Other must do activities on a visit to this part of the US include taking a swim in Lake Havasu, which is completely free and offers a cool and refreshing break from the heat of the Las Vegas sun. And, of course, if you travel around the USA on a tour between Los Angeles and the Grand Canyon you must make sure you get up close and personal with the ritzy lifestyle of many of the famous faces in Hollywood. Take a stroll to the world famous Hollywood sign, walk down Rodeo Drive and find your favourite screen star's handprint on the Walk of Fame. This pavement boasts the handprints of everyone from stars of the Hollywood Golden Age such as Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, as well as modern megastars such as Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep. It is not just film faces whose hands you can see, however, with big name singers such as Ray Charles, Celine Dion and rock band The Doors also honoured here.
You will certainly never run out of fun activities when you travel across USA on a trip between Los Angeles and the Grand Canyon, an adventure which is perfect for giving you the chance to see two very different sides to the US.
