Tour Itinerary

As this tour departs at 0730 we recommend that you book pre-tour accommodation. Please request hotel details at the time of booking.

  • Day 1: New York Area & Cayuga Lake

Leave city life behind and head to famous Cayuga Finger Lake where nothing can beat tasting some of the region's best wines in one heck of a stunning setting. Get ready for your first night under canvas!
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 2: Niagara Falls & Lake Erie

Niagara Falls is three waterfalls all rolled into one, so you can only imagine how epic it'll be to witness this natural wonder with your own eyes. Get your kicks on an optional 'Maid of the Mist' cruise. You're sure to get wet, but the immense sound and pure awesomeness of the experience is worth a few soggy clothes! After a great day at the falls you'll head over to Lake Erie where you'll spend the night.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 3: Cedar Point, Ohio

Travelling further on up the road you'll cross over into the state of Ohio. While you're here, ask a 'Buckeye' to tell you all about their beloved state nut. Still on the shore of Lake Erie you'll head over to Cedar Point, where you'll find 'The Best Amusement Park in the World' and you'll soon see why as the parks roller coasters dominate the skyline as far as the eye can see. After a day full of excitement and thrills, you'll be pleased to rest your weary head for another night next to the beautiful Lake Erie, one of America's five Great Lakes.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 4-5: Chicago

Visit the Amish community in Shipshewana, Indiana, who maintain a more traditional way of life then make a brief stop in Gary for a photo of the house that legendary Michael Jackson grew up in. Next it's onto Chicago, home to some of the greatest blues music in America. Soar up Willis Tower for dizzying views over the `Windy City'. Trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile before taking to pedal power on the included famous 'Bobby's Bike Hike' tour. For awesome views of the city skyline head down to Lake Michigan to take in the laid back city vibes and grab yourself a slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza, yum!
    Accommodation: Hostel nights included

  • Day 6: Wisconsin & Minnesota

If you live for the dairy delight that is cheese, you might want to consider moving to Wisconsin. Famed for cheesy goodness Wisconsin is also known for its beer making, so you can rest assured you won't go hungry or thirsty here. Make a quick visit to the iconic Jolly Green Giant Statue in Blue Earth and head out across the great prairies of America's original western frontier. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle down for some shut-eye under a sky full of stars.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 7: Badlands National Park

All signs lead to Wall Drug - the renowned drug store in the little frontier town of Wall. It's so big you need a map to get around and it's also your last stop before heading into the Badlands. The moon-like scenery of Badlands National Park is truly bizarre, so make sure you get snap happy as you explore the unique lunar landscape of low slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw tooth ridges. This definitely isn't the moon and the odd sighting of bison, Bighorn Sheep and prairie dogs only confirms this.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 8: Mount Rushmore

It's not every day you get to see the faces of America's presidents peering out from the granite face of Mount Rushmore. The sculpture features presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln and it's pretty darn huge with 60 foot high faces, 500 feet up. Don't forget to check out another rock-carved epic that is the impressive Crazy Horse monument, a memory to the famed Lakota Indian war leader and a sight not to be missed.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 9: Cody

It's pistols at dawn as you enter wild Wyoming and head to Cody in the heart of cowboy country. Embrace the cowboy roots, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head! Nothing says Wyoming more than a good dose of rodeo and a Stetson, so why not indulge yourself in a summer rodeo. Enjoy an included visit to Cody Rodeo for an evening of fun (only on departures 1st June-31st August).
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 10-11: Yellowstone National Park

Pitch up in the world's first national park, Yellowstone. View the iconic explosive Old Faithful Geyser and colourful waterfalls as you keep your eyes peeled for the abundant wildlife that roam the park including bison, bear, moose and elk. If after all that exploring of this beautiful park you're a little tired, why not make the most of the nearby Boiling River for a well-earned soak in the hot springs (seasonal only)? The perfect way to end a day of exploring!
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 12-13: Jackson & Grand Teton National Park

Next up are the wonderful views and hikes that await in the majestic Grand Teton National Park. With few foothills to speak of, the jagged peaks here rise like teeth from lush, flat meadows against bright blue skies. We recommend taking the ferry across to Jenny Lake with a hike up to Inspiration Point for sensational views of the valley, lake and forest below. Rafting the raging Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers, should definitely get that adrenaline pumping! If you prefer to stay on dry land how about a shot of 'Red-Eye' whiskey at the Silver Dollar Saloon?
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 14-15: Nevada & Lake Tahoe

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you and your travelling posse continue westward across the Northern Great Basin. You'll bite off a big chunk of the Nevada desert today and when you arrive in Tahoe you're sure to be blown away by the stunning crystal clear waters and the incredible vistas that surround it. This is the perfect opportunity to go for a quick swim or just chill out. Top the day off with an optional sunset sailboat cruise and then try and win big at one of the nearby resort hotels.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 16-17: Yosemite National Park

Follow the Sierra south as you take a scenic drive into Yosemite National Park, where you'll get the opportunity to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Once inside Yosemite, keep your eyes peeled and your cameras at the ready for some incredible wildlife sightings. Bear often frequent the area and when the sun goes down listen out for coyotes howling amidst the pines and sequoias. This is a paradise for any lover of the outdoors and whatever activities you get up to in Yosemite, you're sure to have a blast.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 18-19: San Francisco

Come fog or shine this city's awesome! Start with a tour of Haight-Ashbury, a street oozing with hippy vibes and plenty of quirky shops and cafes. The highlights keep coming thick and fast with an included guided tour of San Francisco's famous Chinatown and North Beach, helping you scratch beneath the surface of the 'City by the Bay'. Head down to Pier 39 to see the resident sea-lions who flock there in their hundreds, then grab yourself a delicious crab roll at Fisherman's Wharf. You can't go all way to San Francisco without a stroll across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Better yet, why not set sail on an optional sunset sail cruise for a different perspective of the famous bridge and this awesome city!
    Accommodation: Hostel nights included

If you are interested in visiting Alcatraz we recommend you book your tickets well in advance direct with Alcatraz Cruises. For this tour you should book your ticket for day 19 (1pm onwards). See Tour Extras tab for more information.

  • Day 20: Big Sur & California Coast

With each passing mile on California's most famous road, the Pacific Coast Highway, the shore grows more and more spectacular. Redwood forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. As the highway snakes further south, get away from it all amongst the pristine wilderness of Big Sur and stop for that iconic photo viewpoint of McWay Falls before settling in for a night under canvas on the California Coast.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 21: Santa Barbara & Los Angeles

It's your final day on the great open road, so enjoy a free day in sunny Santa Barbara to explore the pier, shop or relax on the beach. Known as 'The American Riviera', you'll find no shortage of palm trees to sit beneath - perhaps with a glass of local wine? Want more adventure? This quirky town is surrounded by mountains and offers some great hiking, kayaking and boogie boarding. This is Grade-A California right here! Finally we roll into LA with an included tour of Hollywood Boulevard, stroll the Walk of Fame and take a photo of the iconic Hollywood sign. That's a wrap, folks!!

This tour ends at approximately 17:00. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00.
